Work To Succeed
12-19-09
The Spirit of God is poured out upon the servant
When hard work brings words to mouth
With an illumination fervent
Toil and travail to succeed
For it pays to bust your bum
And sweat and bleed
So I was given a spiritual bloody nose
As I have hope in knowing
That what I go through Jesus Christ knows
He's been there even before we knew what was going to transpire
It is hard manual labor
That starts our fire...
...title inspired by a Yes lyric, "you have to work to succeed"
Of Thees And Thous
12-19-09
Try not to impress or flatter God
In the usage of old English of strange spelling
Yet still we have a desire to learn
About the thee's and thou's
Seeing the benefits in jackasses, goats and cows
Yet to be upon the altars sacrificed
Meat lovers get a good deal in their purchase specially priced
May us learn to see past what many call depression....
The Right To Hang A Wreathe
12-19-09
We will see signs in heaven above
And in the earth beneath
To behold blood, fire and vapors of smoke
I have the right to say this
Like the Christian has the right to hang on his door his wreathe
Where babes can devour small bites of steak and not choke
Some say that one cannot mix music with politics
As we put on the armor
To stand fast in the storms of the devil's tricks
O, Alas, what will I do with all of these written rhymes...
Memories Of M-
12-19-09
The bookworm lass I once known
Had an impact on the rest of my life
And it turned out that I do not have a heart of stone
Given the knowledge for the bravado
To take up again my retail knife
Love will see one through every snowstorm
So as of Now
This is my life
My law and my love
Where esteemed the same
Are the night owl and day dove
When all things will serve their purpose
In this world uncertain...
Ode On Acts 2:20
12-19-09
The sun is turned to darkness
And the moon is turned to blood
Before the great and notable day of the Lord is come
For Jesus healed a blind man with spittle and mud
As I have my dreams where I will break my base drum
Maybe I was Ringo in another time and place
But now I am content in the singing of Amazing Grace
As sisters in Christ are made manifest
Through the music and the beat...
Asking For A Loan
12-19-09
We are yet to plea for loans
From the Dutch bankers of Amsterdam
As we have a Christmas turkey in mind
Yet willing to settle for a ham
Yet to experiment with honey mustard and soy
To feel like we can once more as a growing boy
Greatest in the kingdom of heaven
Is he whom humbles himself as a child
We weather our first snowstorm
As it is yet still considered mild
Where our double dipping
Is permitted and justified...
Poem For The Poets
12-19-09
And for those that take the podium and recite these
I will regard and salute
As in the darkness so shines a manifest light
Where Ian brings to rock and roll the sound of the flute
And to men who recite their poems
I will highly regard
As in our kitchen we sweep up the bread crumb and glass shard
Such things can work together for God's plan
When I am soon to partake in my stew from a can
Where words can either build or destroy...
Still We Ask For More
12-19-09
We squander our substance
And ask God for more dough
As it turns out it really doesn't work this way
As I have so little time with so much to know
As in the season it only seems like an endless grey
As the British boast and the Irish fight
So I raise my glass for a toast
Ready for the asp that might bite
Following no rules of rhyme nor meter
As I walk on the water like Peter...
