It's All You

It's All Me
3-24-14

Our Saul sets up a memorial for himself
Just what the devil wants us to regard our own reflections
With high esteem
Where I recall in clarity
Last night's math class dream
Going down to Gilgal
To bask in my forever flowing warm stream
O, what is the meaning of the bleating of these sheep
O, what does it mean
Yet to be as one to be quiet
Being as one to have not need to make the scene
O, why did you swoop down upon the spoil
But to be one to receive it
By the gospel today
That is my only agenda....

Grope
3-24-14

The God of patience and consolation
Doth grant you to be likeminded
To read the same book
Here yet bound where we can be as brothers
Even if we're not twins
Regarding where we stumble
Upon our own besetting sins
Where these things written aforetime
Are here but for our learning
That through the patience and the comfort of the Scriptures
We might have hope
By the still and small voice that whispers
Do what is in your hand
Here and now to cope
For Christ pleased not himself
To be made High Priest
As still in the darkness
I feel my way and grope...

Well Studied
3-24-14

O, pardon today my God
Where I go wrong
And be thou with my pen
So I can write this new song
For I will not return with you
Unless you repent and quit ye like men
And be strong
These words have pricked me to the heart
Rejected from the beginning and left out
To hide between my walls
And to study my doubt
O, pardon today where I fall short
O, justify my wickedness
So that these small words will yet exhort
Where Samuel mourns for Saul
Regretting that he made him king
According to this history
Well studied by he with pen in hand
O, Lord have mercy....

Fertile
3-24-14

Still possessive about my cat
Walking all over my place of study
Treating her like the queen
Named the grace of God
Of a Christ still bloody
Moving onto chapter sixteen
According to Jesse
Defined as the gift
Being as his lineage
Upon river banks fertile and muddy
As Samuel is sent again to Bethlehem
With a complexion wholesome and ruddy
Knowing not where to go from here
Where there is no middle ground
Where we live in faith or in fear
As the sword made many women childless and barren
In the womb of which we now speak
O, how long will I mourn
In the humbling of myself yet meek....

Beloved
3-24-14

Fill your horn with oil
And go and anoint this tabernacle
And know it is you, my friend
For weal or for woe
Inviting our Jesse to the sacrifice
Where on so much go the show
Yeah, I love you all
Even if I could not be there to see it
O, do you come peaceably
By the coldness of my right big toe
Basking in my morning smoke and Joe
According to the man after God's own heart
Yet to be the next king
In making a fresh new start
Fill your horn with oil
And go there tomorrow
Looking not on one's physical stature
But on the heart...

Beloved (Part 2)
3-24-14

The youngest of sons keep the sheep
Being as the chosen
In matters dark and deep
As by faith I take the first steps
In another nimble and graceful leap
O, send and bring him hither
As a soul doth both flourish and yet wither
Whose skill is upon the harp
To make music
In the ears of they whom are pleased by it
Whose valor is in combat
For the cause of what is right
Plowing my way through First Samuel
Straight into the night....

Exploit
3-24-14

The Lord does not see as man sees
Looking upon the heart
And not the physical stature
Like another beautiful mind
That this poet frees
As he is ruddy, good looking and bright eyed
According to the fact
That today again I lied
Arise now and anoint him
For which the priest hath cried
As Samuel doth rise up
To go to Ramah
Where I prefer my mushrooms fried
To yet perform my great exploit
Returning to my Bethlehem
To yet come and see
As the Lord does not see
As man sees...

Harp
3-24-14

O, command your servants
To bring a man who is skillful
In playing the harp
Being as one to yet flounder and carp
To discuss the matters of music
Of which many have their opinion
Whether such is secular or sacred
O, whose to say
Of such a matter
Of the inclined ear
To be one to live by the faith
That doth dissolve all fear
By which Saul sends his messengers
In that I make my way through one more year
And just as well two, three and four
O, send me to your son
Whom is keeping the sheep
As on all sides
We are given rest from war...

Sochoh
3-24-14

I have been guilty of kicking myself in the teeth
According to our heaven above
And our earth beneath
Plowing into chapter seventeen
Where our giant Goliath sets the stage
Of the trial at hand
Where the Holy Spirit gives me the gift
To hear it and understand
By which the Philistines gather
Where we look upon what we would rather
Drawing up our battle array
So that the pen today might show me the way
Standing on the mountain
With a valley between us
Just to tell my brother
That I'm doing okay
He said it was a slippery slope
But I don't see the snow on the ground today....

Nicotine Goliath
3-24-14

Standing at nine feet six
So is my giant I fail to face
Wherein I get my fix
Fitted with his bronze helmet
Knowing today many new tricks
Where the staff of his spear
Is like a weaver's beam
As I come to my recollection
Of last night's dream
Of being nothing but a fisherman
Casting in his line upon a stony stream
Drenching my pack of smokes
In my shirt pocket
As our Goliath is defined as our exile
And we take up such an illustration
As if it were going out of style
Taking our ten loaves up upon our hill
Hoping that there is a higher purpose in this
And praying that these words will do God's will....

Head Cheese
3-24-14

Go and run to your brothers at their camp
Sitting out at the picnic table
Where my vesture grows moist and damp
Still writing my rhymes
According to their mass production
Given the comfort of this intermission
And its sweeter introduction
Yet to carry these ten cheeses
To the captain of their thousand
O, is that a parable
Or a very subtle joke
But a picture by the blowing of heavenly smoke
O, I love you Lord today
And I seek you early
Yet to see how my brothers fare
Being as one not afraid to care...
