2-1-14 b

going back 8 years. here's some of my earlier material in my drinking days...

Believe It Or Not
1-29-06

And so I start out my spiritual feast
In the reading of Timotheus and Paul
As I recollect the days I'd follow the animal and beast
With my wanderlust
And main mission to rove the shopping mall
And when one man comes to the Lord
All angels in heaven sing and rejoice
And believe it or not
Someone in Belfast was converted
Because of the writings of James Joyce
And God has yet his uses
For even the abominable and perverse
And Jesus has no partiality
In a world of variance diverse
And it is good to know
That all is level at the cross
And we will serve all masters with high esteem
But we'll remember that God is the boss....

Afflatus
1-29-06

And it is my tradition to write at least two rhymes
Before I order up my drink
And truth, reality and salvation is my mission
As it is my privilege and responsibility to freely think
And I looked up the word afflatus
And on the same page I found the word afflict
So I humbled my heart and mind before the Spirit
Feeling remorse of the habit I've not quite yet kicked
Yet so where sin abounds
Yes, grace will abound so much more
So I market my basket of peaches for ten pounds
In a time somewhere in history
When things were still pure...

Hope In Spite Of The Philistines' Victory
1-29-06

And there is always a rock to get a grip on
When we seem to be slipping and falling
As there is always a cup of coffee to get a sip on
Blessed to be a partaker of this heavenly calling
And Israel so was defeated
And thirty thousand fell
Yet those who remained standing
Had their stories to tell
For there is much to learn in the battles that were lost
For in this we have new hopes
With the river of Jordan yet to be crossed
And someday we will make it
In spite of raging seas and rivers
For we are in the hand of the good Lord
Whom still rescues and delivers...
