Thirty-Six Lord Willing
1-19-09
Disposed of ten dead strings of Christmas lights
No worries of replacements
Of next year's winter nights
The good Lord willing is what I ought to say
While in this life I am not promised
Even next April or May
If I live to thirty-six
I'll rove the promenade
For pubs and pinball
At every stop I split a ten
To get my fix
Taking it a day at a time
Knowing how summer will fade to fall
Time, O how it is fleeting...
Cat Fancy
1-19-09
Yet to read are fifteen old Cat Fancy magazines
Of which information by now is probably obsolete
As I take my meat with my beans
And with my greens
To sleep with one cat at my head
And the other at my feet
I'll probably fall down dead
Before I read all there is in store
As once again my cats are fed
As I soon retire to dream of my peace
That results from my war
I write with a pen with a misplaced cap
Drinking water fresh and cold
Straight from the tap...
Do Something, My Resolution
1-19-09
Two thousand nine resolution
Do something
Anything at all
For every problem there is a solution
When my folks pass on
There will be no one to break me
Or to give a call
The baby inside of me is crying
The tyrant within is yet lying
Takes a little bit of patience
To write what is worthwhile
And such will cost me trouble and trials
Caring no longer for outward guile
Nor style
As I continue to seek
Only my knowledge...
Artificial Light
1-19-09
Such a word was to men
Of the land of Benjamin
Of the priests of Anathoth
As the fuel of the lamp
And its light artificial
Would draw nigh the mosquito and the moth
All I know is that I hunger and yet thirst
Setting flesh aside as I put the Spirit first
A slave to my devices
Accustomed to the market of higher prices
Subject to giving and sacrifices
Everyone has something to contribute
No matter how poor
Soon I resort to my free internet whore
But it's all good...
By My Fast, Held Captive
1-19-09
Jerusalem, into captivity, is carried away
As granny smith apples are bought with my pay
A horse will take a bite
We try to muzzle her in the night
Life is a whole lot more
Than the simplicity of black and white
More than ever I yet hunger
Getting older yet in my stomach
I'll be yet younger
Told to fast after the hour of ten
Yet still determined
To persevere by way of pen
Refraining requires will power
As I covet a morsel
Of the seeds of the sunflower
O, where will I go...
To Pray When You Hunger
1-19-09
To take care is another form of the word, tremble
As brothers are yet to convoke, condone and to, with joy yet assemble
When you are starving
Might be the best time to, for others pray
Where the most difficult transition lies in one's sleeping
Toward one's waking day
A fig tree is yet unripe
Seeking yet his own
As roots try to grow deeper
Yet are foiled by a stone
May the roots be fresh
So that the branches can be likewise
Flee the breaking of your fast
To desire to be yet mature and wise...
Choose Thine Fruit
1-19-09
We are taught that the ways of self
Are as the ways of a child
As along the way we learn how we cannot eat everything
That is found in the wild
Yeah, of the berries upon brambles
We must pick and choose
As we will learn a whole lot more
When we fail and when we lose
Experience is not always the most trustworthy guide
As we are yet to stumble in the wilderness
Upon self and pride
We are told to put away childish things
When it is wisdom that tides contrary yet brings...
