CHOOSE THINE FRUIT

Choose Thine Fruit
1-19-09

We are taught that the ways of self
Are as the ways of a child
As along the way
We learn how we cannot eat everything
That is found in the wild
Yeah, of berries upon brambles
We must pick and choose
As we will learn a whole lot more
When we fail and when we lose
Experience is not always the most trustworthy guide
As we are yet to stumble in the universe
Upon self and pride
We are told to put away childish things
When it is wisdom
That tides contrary yet brings...

White Is Alright
1-19-09

Let it snow, let it snow
God Almighty knows what he is doing
Trees strip bare
Color fades
Nature is always in the process of renewing
In all that we say
There is a good chance
That it was already quoted and stated
Yet we as poets with our message rejoice
Wherein we might be hated
I meditate upon a psychedelic keyboard riff
Unwilling to give this up
Of a brow of brass
With a neck stiff
This is who God intended me to be....

Steak And/or Fish
1-19-09

The bible is an all you can eat buffet
It matters not what order you devour
Your seven courses of your meal
The meat of the word is like a steak
And sometimes like a tilapia fillet
These are the words to read
To make one true and real
I bring in the holiday of the inauguration
Some say it is just as important as Christmas
I'll get up at noon
To catch Barak's speech
Excited about change
A garden is fertilized by a rotten peach
But it's all good

these were the days I wrote by night and slept by day....

Back To James
1-19-09

Randomly and spontaneously
I flip over to the epistle of James
Finding peace, comfort and hope
In the past tense familiar faces and names
The joy of remembrance is in my mind a true token
Art is made from discarded structures
That only seem to be broken
We bear the burning burden
And cold calamity of confusion
Our focus is on the predicament
But this is folly and illusion
Think on good things
And you will do much better....

Mad About It
1-19-09

A conflagration rages out of control
A madman's zeal must be properly restrained
Enthusiasm is like gasoline for the soul
And in speaking up about it
There is much to be gained
There is a forest fire
In the grove of my heart and mind
Sometimes conditions are contrary
So that its result might be kind
May us look for the end
Also known as the outcome
May the differences in you and I
Be greater than the similarity of the sum...
