count on it

Count On It
7-1-14

Count on it
So whispers the voice
From that northwest corner
I give God thanks for what I am today
In reflection of last night's dreams of finding heaven
Not a place with bright white light
But of peace and understanding
O, Lord I love you today
In any way I might know how
Count on it, so is the whisper
I hear from the center of the chaos of my quarters
Laodicean and lukewarm
By my new touch and feel
Of a shaved face
Ready to weather today
The approaching storm
Count on it....

Business
7-1-14

When it is hot or cold
You will know it
Like a knock at your door
For business as usual
To but grow it
By the hiss of the studio version
To my favorite tune
From the Pentecost to the rapture
We reap and sow it
And at the chime of nine
Rejoice again
As so I like to think I am born again
With such a black and humble pen
By my lucid dream
Of getting a clean and smooth shave
As sin doth keep the door yet closed
But it is our nature
To go there come the chime of ten...

Furlough
7-2-14

I have every right to stay home
And watch the rain
As I will sup and dine with you
By the pleasure that comes about by pain
According to such an intimate decision
On the days when it seems insane
I stand at the door of your heart
And I hope that this has not been in vain
Requesting the next rhymes threescore and ten
As my only agenda today is the pen
Making what we make since the world began
I have every right to call my furlough
And do it all again...

My Open Door
7-2-14

By this individual decision
I stay close to God
Keeping my door pried ajar
By stave, staff and rod
To answer the door and let them come in
And find it not odd
Playing Jerry's archives
To build with bricks of sod
As sin might keep the door closed
On those that walk on through
According to one's half step
In hoping to reach out to you
O, be kind to one another
So it is written for us to be as true
Breaking the law according to tradition
Praying for better weather
So I can carry out my mission
Answer the door and he will come in
In spite of such a base and vile condition...

Stir
7-2-14

Sometimes it's hard to get stirred
Of one's sediment
Sometimes it's hard to activate one's prayer capsule
Peter Gabriel said something like this
Between verses and bars
Making plans to take a trip to Mars
By our tradition
That wants to keep our doors closed
As all appears just the way that it is
As infinite
And by the chime of six
I begin again
Walk with him tomorrow
It's up to you
And he will propel your humble pen
Hoping to be willing in all of this
For the next rhymes threescore and ten
O, let me write your blues away
Now that it is called today.....

Cudgel
7-2-14

Thou hath multiplied your merchants and traders
Above the stars of heaven
Not just somewhere out in space
But within you
According to this grace
By our cankerworm that doth spoil
And soon again fly away
I say O, Jimmy row all day today
This is all that I know to do about it
As I stand today within and without it
Inviting my Jesus
Wherever I go
In no need to doubt it
By all the years combined
That melt into a dream
The sun is finally up
By my coffee cup
In not need of cream
By club and by cudgel
In the wading of the stream....

Foolscap
7-2-14

Taking up my foolscap
To record last night's dream
Of the folk rock scene
And knowing her for the first time
Bound in tablet form
For the cause of such a rhyme
By truncheon and by bludgeon
And by its staff
It was so funny that I forgot to laugh
Taking up this foolscap
Of tablet bound in yellow sheets
Such is not my identity
Regarded as the me that I still look for
In that soon I will be as one to answer the door
Taking up my foolscap
To make peace even in the midst of war....

Sent
7-2-14

Sent to heal the brokenhearted
By quote on quote
Glad that once and twice again I have started
As one to have boldness
To step outside the boat
To proclaim liberty to these captives
And of the day's events I jot my note
By recovery to the sight of the blind
Much they can see of it through closed eyes
And an open mind
Taking out my last load of laundry
To see what I can find
Sent to heal the brokenhearted
Such is the meaning of my name
Today the Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing
You will surely utter such a proverb
As skies are clearing....

Scuttle
7-2-14

O, how do we listen to what we cannot hear
According to the music in my head
That did trigger my fear
O, go on home your mamma's calling you
Tell me the news
Calamity was its way to speak of it
And I tell you truly
By the heavens that are shut up
There is a famine
O, how do we incline an ear
To a sound not yet made manifest
By book, roll and scroll
And another measurable goal
And by the scuttle of our coal
O, how can we listen...

On Luke 4:24
7-2-14

Sitting down to myself
Teach as my brother is still far out of reach
By the rind of a grapefruit and the fuzz of a peach
God will always love me unconditionally
Yet it is not a license to do wrong
But to write today my verse in my song
According to this year acceptable
In that I am strong
Today the Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing
Returning again in the power of the Spirit
I am invited to the meeting
And I hope to bring my pen and my integrity
O, physician heal thyself
Assuredly I say to you
No prophet is accepted
In his own country....

In Sidon
7-2-14

The shepherds slumber
O, king of Assyria
Yet to be the one to propagate compulsion in hysteria
The nobles shall dwell in the dust
As the hour rolls around
As for this flask I yet lust
And in this bondage
I am bound to catch the morning news
And prosper in what I have found
In the region of our Sidon
I dream a good dream
And life goes on today
And the Scripture is fulfilled
In your hearing
Passing through the midst of them
He goes his way just as he will
The shepherds slumber
As we take our rest by overkill....

Half Day Shift
7-2-14

Twelve hours remain
But I need not do the math
No longer as one to be under his wrath
And at the chime of seven
I but proceed yet astonished
By his doctrine stated plainly
As one's leaven
Standing by the cape of Genneserat
In bright new hopes of going to heaven
Twelve hours remain
But I need not count
As so of every blessing
We yet consider our fervent fount
Thy people so are scattered upon the mountains
And no man doth regard
Being as one to admit
Today that life is hard...

Consistory
7-2-14

Of ecclesiastical consistory
I find my way by the rhyme at hand
Seeking not to be understood
But to be as one to understand
According to the calling of the solemn assembly
I must say it is out of my own hand
Of ecclesiastical consistory
O, Lord how long will I cry
In that I want to both live and die
Crying out to you of violence
As you shall yet save
By the burden of Habbakkuk
That the prophet did see
I come to terms today with the real me
By ecclesiastical consistory
I ask who are they
And O, just who are we....
