Event
6-3-12
Latest notable event so is the discovery
Of my first and second place ribbons
I won in a poetry contest years ago
Of such laurels I need not rest upon
In that they are before my line of sight
Revealed as red and blue according to the sunlight
Something to write home about
But I'm already here
Just where I ought to be....
Whistle
6-3-12
Yet to acknowledge the sound of whistling in the hallway
It doesn't mean I need be swept away in the winds of change
For when we think about what comes later
We know that it's not here quite yet
And I need not be blown in what is only a breeze
And to pray for all of them
I don't need to be on my knees
In the acknowledgement of what is...
Soup Again
6-3-12
Of visage, countenance and face
We can always know of God's love and grace
In a bowl of New England clam chowder
Known in the South as good stew
At the taverns of my dreams
As I recall my drinking days
In my subconscious landscape
Of where promises are fulfilled
As we ought to look for something to perform
On a stage set for poets in me today
At work at fulfillment....
Handouts
6-4-12
Handouts to stray cats
Are my gestures of hospitality
As a good Samaritan like a cigarette Jesus
Thronged by those that traverse and are lost by the way
It is a way to be and not just to be passing on through
In handouts to stray cats
This is good even if it's all I have to give....
Elementary
6-4-12
The tallest of trees can be seen from all around the world
An observation elementary
But I am no more lofty than these babes in their want and need for milk
Such represents a king that meant no harm
To the four upon which the flame had no effect
Elementary my dear, Hawthorne
So to speak in my greeting
To those to which I lend a hand....
Inside Work
6-4-12
In the acknowledgment of the inventory
Of that which is loaned to me
Under a roof for which I am thankful
I bide the late morning with smoke and tea
Cleaning corners of dust and debris
To come to terms of the price I pay
For what comes for free
In the acknowledgment of the material
Keeping me going through hours of leisure
In that I'm put to my inside work...
Quoting Nahum 2:6
6-4-12
The gates of the Rivers shall be pried ajar
As the palaces are dissolved
As in my dream I report to class
Where equations I have never seen are quite easily solved
Showing up for divine appointments
That were never on my schedule in the first place
Where my only agenda is to write these words
As sitting right beside me
Is God's Grace....
