passport

Passport

7-3-10

It is said that education
Is the passport to success
And yet our ignorance
We are yet to confess
Considering anything that ensures admission
Where we are called great
But not according to position
As I wear yesterday's green shirt
With my underarm
Where I am reconciled by its magic and charm
When the job is no longer about the pay nor the hours
As bees will hover over summer's surviving flowers
It is said that education is the passport to success...

I'm Still Of Age
7-3-10

I'm still of age to use my hand
Of which they used to say
That in doing this I will understand
As a climax in such will be worth ten grand
Yet in those days the stakes were high
Where the low would reach straight into the sky
Back out to the coffee shop on Monday
Yet I don't drink this coffee anymore
Where I will be given the words to say
That will overcome the strumpet and the whore
I'm still of age to use my hand
Yet to make my money
At the lemonade stand.....

Going Somewhere
7-3-10

A passport is an authorization to go somewhere
As we try to keep our states of mind
As if we did not care
Back out to the state store on Monday
With the attitude that we may as well be gay
Where two men are down
And therefore we will call it a power play
As we look to chance
So that we will have something to say
A passport is an authorization to go somewhere
As we have no distinction
Between the dark and of the fair...

Trying To Choose A Title With My Eyes Closed
7-3-10

It is said that poker is advertised as Jack's Links
As leftover beans are washed down kitchen sinks
And we decide to stay awake
Instead of taking our fifty winks
Poker on the sports channel
While we dwell in cotton and flannel
Looking to my cat but she looks away
To give me new clues in how to pray
Ready or not here I come
With the sound of another base drum
It is said that poker is advertised by beef jerky
and mentioned by the public
Ham and turkey....

Stroking My Beard
7-3-10

Stroking my beard
Claiming to go through changes
Smoke in my own eyes is weird
It's cool with me
Like unknown rivers
And mountain ranges
All is mentioned in the dictionary
I received as a gift
Where I am destined to work the night shift
In my quotes and in my rhyme
With enough to make my next dollar and dime
Stroking my stubble
To get in touch with trouble
Feeling up my mustache
As I watch old episodes of Mash
Ready to take upon me the stripe and the lash
Stroking my beard
For the evidence
To become something more...

Full And Neon Bowl
7-3-10

O, what would a deceased man say
Of a lady that marries again
He wonders is it all part of the plan
Or a ploy for a new and christened pen
And we look to a full and neon bowl
As we take up lacrosse
And try to make our goal
Unknowing of the winnings of another lost soul
Yet subject to another beautiful role
So many words I do not yet know
As we are given the chance to shine and to glow
What will a dead man say
Of a woman that marries again
O, what will he say of a man's persistent pen...

Only Wasted When You're Dead
7-4-10

A grandfather of mine
Said you're only wasted when you're dead
Was I cast upon the waters
A new manner of unleavened bread
He said I'm only wasted when I'm long gone
In the esteem of when I would once mow the lawn
And I look to the songs written ten years ago
To come to terms with what an average man cannot know
And such a grandfather of mine passed away
With food to digest and substance to yet fray...
