Gershom (Born To The Purple)
6-1-15
Cigarette lighter three inches in length
The smoke is not judged today by its strength
Ambition can make one look pretty ugly
O, what can this mean
But to give me something to do
Another study on Hosea
A lesson in adultery
Jesus gets jealous
For treasure and supply cities
And Hebrew midwives
If I stay home I will save my fifty dollars
A bush burned but not consumed
A people greater and taller than you
Are of the son of Gershom
Born to the purple
She wears it well
Level at the cross
We toll the bell
God bless the grass and trees
In this torrential rain....
Molasses
6-2-15
He is called Moses
Because she drew him out of water
As we confront thorns of roses
And esteem the Pharaoh's daughter
Prairie wind blowing through my head
It seems that everything has been done and said
For Raamses and Pithom
For Shiphra and Puah
These are my main morning essentials
I have been a stranger in a strange land
My religion is my profession
I have also been a bible scholar
Even in not going to classes
I wake up and I'm dying
Stuck in molasses...
Spelt Stand Fast
6-2-15
I have been a stranger in a strange land
I have no means this morning to come to understanding
Got only three hours of sleep
Things got out of hand
Seven nations mightier than thou
All I need to think about is right now
Falling back in love with madness
Wanting something even if it means my sadness
By my bricks and their quota and tale
Covet not what belongs to your neighbor
By the flax and barley struck
And I am a sitting and lucky duck
As the wheat and spelt stand fast
Let us make the morning last
I'm turning purple...
Plagues
6-2-15
Water, frogs and lice
I have been naughty and nice
Flies, murrain and boils
The man up too early yet toils
Hail, locusts and darkness
I have my coughing fit
And the river of green is sliding unseen
And my snake recoils making for the sea
Making for me
A fresh batch
The land of Goshen set apart
And safe and sound
Forty chapters of the hard stuff
I am in dire need of something more....
It's Too Early
6-2-15
Companions listen for my voice
A four hundred thirty year sojourn
Praying for my cough to subside
The firstborn consecrated
I pray for all to amend
For the two sons of Zipporah
I get an early start
Believing that God has a reason
By the bitter waters of Marah made sweet
When a tree is cast in
I can almost thank him
That no one is without sin
Time to go back to sleep
At least for another two hours
It's too early...
