sallet

Sallet
7-2-15

Of helmet and sallet
By hammer and mallet
By bed, O take up your pallet
Fitted with a visor now that you are older and wiser
Our salted and our starchy meal
Much more than a way to feel
Grown from dried roots of Old World orchids
Used in food and medicine
Coining inventions of Franklin and of Edison
I am here only as an observer
A child that lives for today
My eyes full of sunshine
I was a child for a day
Of the half tribe of Manessah
Eighteen thousand
Getting older and wiser with every day
We were the children....

New Cart
7-2-15

Therefore I command thee this thing today
I was a child who lived for today
My eyes full of sunshine
And they carried the ark of God in a new cart
Out of the house of Abinadab
But for what but that these things could be written
Seeing to be once again as smitten
Sending messengers and timbers of cedars
We send them out to fill again bird feeders
As the Philistines yet again spread themselves abroad in the valley
As I seek to slow down and capture the riff
Rarified and raging for the nymph of Salmacis
And Hermaphrodites
I lose sight in just what I am doing here
By the ducal and the duchy
Soon I will get lucky...

Awl
7-2-15

A territory ruled by a citizen of our dukedom
Something I cannot explain in words
Due to this block
Wherein I raise the roof and roll away the rock
As a duchy I am soon to get lucky
If this is what I believe
Yes believe and it shall be established
For my chambre-de-ville
Slaves are set free in the seventh year
Then we take up the awl to thrust through his ear
And he will be your servant forever
Or however long it might take to conduct this business of our endeavor
And maidservant do likewise
Better late than never
This is my way of learning scripture
As a slave and a poet of my own.....

Double Hired Servant
7-2-15

And David made him houses
And took to him spouses
It shall not seem hard unto thee
It will be as a wild card to thee
To complete another royal flush for a guard over thee
After all these years you still sojourn in the same place
A survivor in seniority by God's grace
Preparing a place for the ark
In the scintillating of a spark
Where man still prefers the dark
Hoping to befriend his great white shark
Hoping to listen and to hark
It shall not be hard to thee
To simply set him free
For he hath been a double hired servant
And I have love enough for three
In serving thee six years
And God will bless thee in all thou do
In no regret nor rue
And through the clouds
I can see my sky of blue....
