1-8-14 b

On Romans 7:15
12-30-13

What I am doing
I do not understand
And that which I hate, that I do
Lighting up another cigarette
I thought that I would try to quit
Yet such resistance  only makes the stream flow stronger
Such a brook of affliction
For that which I wish to do, I do not practice
But choose to in the long run
In that what I do
I do not understand
And that which I hate
That I do...

Wretched
12-30-13

With my flesh
I still serve the law of sin
Yet when I fail and fall short
And when I lose then indeed I can win
Triumphing over all subjection
By going through with it
Of who that can deliver me from this body of death
That indeed is the life of the party
Where seats are reserved
At a table
Where faith is exchanged
Between those that yet differ
Making it beautiful
In ordering up our lobster tail...

Trying Something New
12-30-13

Reading Scripture out loud
With the meekness of a child
Trying something new to me
By his mercies sweet and mild
Praying with a full deck
Yet to draw another wild
Feeling much better
Now that I have smiled
By the trimming of my beard
Once more styled
As that which bears thorns is rejected
And nigh unto blessing
Seeing the situation to be my teacher
Where I take it like a man of faith...

On Hebrews 6:7
12-30-13

For the earth that drinks in the rain
Bringing forth herbs meet for them that choose to partake
Working my way through this writer's block
Paying esteem even to the snake
Seeking out food for himself
Crawling back into the lake
Where we conclude that all is sacred
And there is nothing fake
For the earth that drinks in the rain
Grass and trees are blessed
According to that
Which just is as it is...

Resolution Reiterated
12-30-13

Don't worry, be happy
Is my new year's resolution
Seemingly a tall order
Seemingly a pipe dream
Like giving up cigarettes
I already blew that one off today
Don't worry, be happy
So is wise philosophy
In the minds of scholars
That spend much of their time in studies
Delving deep into devotion
Don't worry, be happy
Easier said than practiced
But all things with God are possible
Don't worry, be happy....

Law
12-30-13

The law of Moses doth condemn
Where I, by habit cough up phlegm
To swallow it to savor such
Where my beard stubble is pleasant to the touch
In my narcissistic ways
Loving what God has made
Where the price in full is paid
By the law of sin in our members
As well as the law of the mind
That cannot be revoked
By another cigarette smoked...

On Romans 8:6
12-30-13

To be spiritually minded is life and peace
Of which I aim for today
And not to cease
And to keep on keeping on
Like the dew upon the fleece
Serving as a sign of my latter rain
Where this way of Spirit
Will be today my gain
As to be carnally minded is death
According to the bad news
That as well is good
Something I did not want to hear
But I took it like a man of faith...

Discarded Pistachios
12-30-13

Discarded pistachios
Inspire an ode of this thankfulness
And if this is all I do then I do well
As so through trials
I have many stories today to tell
Of discarded pistachios
Yeah, there is plenty more where that came from
In the times when I would rather be blind, deaf and dumb
On the days where I would seek to be drowsy and numb
Seeing that this pain hath taught me much about who I am
Of discarded pistachios
Next to my cup of tea
Where I yet exercise
The muscles and joints of my thumb...
