Alcoholic Ostrich
4-27-09
I am an alcoholic ostrich
I hide my head in the sand
I need to drink an entire bottle of wine
Just so I can understand
Yet I live day to day
As if everything is alright
As I live for the fall of night
For it is the time when I read and write
If a man cannot understand things of earth
How can he, of heaven
As in meditation
I am born again moment to moment
To purchase a pack of cigarettes at seven-eleven
I seek solace in visiting my neighbors
As insight shared is the fruit of my labors...
Another Glass Down The Hatch
4-27-09
Enjoy your vices a whole lot more when you share
Appreciate the good times a whole lot more when you care
Downed another glass so I can visit a neighbor
Brotherhood is incentive enough for such labor
Thank God for it all
Even oxygen and water
We are the clay and he is the potter
So many words to commit to memory and to con
We give attendance to reading until we're long gone
Time again to visit brother Tom and Daryl
To meditate upon the cats
Both domesticated and feral
They will roam the earth
Long after we are gone....
Most Will Slip
4-27-09
Most of the words I claim to have learned I have forgotten
As yet the fruit purged from the branch are yet rotten
Most of what I jot down has slipped my mind
Yet I still make my lemonade and cast aside the rind
The meat I sink my teeth into is too hard to tear asunder
As of the pirate ships we conquer
We take our spoil and plunder
And the treasures are available in our attack
When a man can be satisfied by chicken nuggets and a big mac
In the land where cholesterol is gold
We eat like a man and never get old....
