groan

Groan
8-2-09

I know no better so I choose to partake
Some call it a sin and not just a mistake
All my money at the store was blown
Didn't know what to pray for so my spirit did groan
Yet some of these things I have a need to unlearn
Such as the place called hell where sinners will burn
Can't blame the devil
We can only blame ourselves
Our own worst enemy
With books upon dusty shelves....

Of Alloys Baser
8-2-09

I have in hand the silver and gold
Yet still prefer alloys of copper and brass
As in time my heart grows cold
Yet the sentinel still lets me pass
Lending upon usury yet lavish just the same
Give what is in your power so is the object of the game
I pretended to smile even in the company of my own
I'd like to stay for a little while
Yet I have no right to cast my first stone
The last line of such a composition is usually offbeat
And not rhyming...

Judged And Damned
8-2-09

What is worse
To be contemned or to be condemned
What is worse
To have a millstone or a milestone
What is worse
To get a call unexpected
Or to misplace the telephone
There is no getting away from rock and roll
But still we are constrained to eat the honey tasting scroll
Somehow I got tired of those games
Of recalling familiar faces and names
That used to appear to me as ghosts...
