Peace And Poise
8-2-04

And I would be as good as dead
Without my spiritual residence in my mind and heart
But tonight I'm content to be well fed
As I have no time to worry about the thunderstorms
Or tornadoes on the trifling weather chart
And today the strong will bear the infirmities of the weak
And not to please ourselves
But of the fact that his name is exalted so we speak
And we stand up to sing aloud and make our joyful noise
And we raise our hands into the sky
To draw our strength and fester up our peace and poise
And so I rise on another work day
And I pray earnestly that I'll have a better day
And I'll step out on faith alone
Knowing that for victory there is always a way
And I would be as good as dead
Without such a Spirit in my life
And I'm given the strength to get out of bed
And again take up my box cutting knife....

My Victory Over Depression
8-2-04

And it is frightening but it is right and true
To say that the spirit of man will never cease to exist
And tonight I am proud to take up this pen of blue
To be one of the peculiar people
To wear a watch on my left wrist
And in the meantime we are torn asunder and turned aside
As in the West Virginia skies so will crash thunder
And you won't get very far by your senses and your pride
And I can remember with joy four years ago
When I made my profession
And brother, because of this
I have every reason to have my victory over all vexation and depression
And now that I've been freed from death and sin
Yes, praise God, my friend
I am promised that I'll win
And I believe that in this we'll make it regardless
Of what kind of shape we might be in...
