Over Jordan
2-15-03

So it is written
To fear is to revere
And I intend to from here on out
To keep this good Word near
And I will make it my school
And as well my business and my career
The judgments, the statutes and commands
An oasis with goodly fruits on desert sands
Prosperity in a time of dryness and drought
As well as love and hope to conquer all fear and doubt
And so it is said for us to cross over Jordan and fear not
As it depends not on what you lack
But on what we've got
And I must say that your gain and increase
Is just as well mine
So we are at liberty with justice
To get the coffee while it's hot....




Message From Chapter Eight
2-15-03

It's easy to forget where it all came from when blessed
And when rich and fat
As puffed up becomes your head
Growing numb under your hat
And overconfident so you step up to bat striking out
And back on the ground in the dust begging for more
And it seems you can take it all for granted
Those hot dog stands and coffee you pour always in access
And always in reach
As it takes a humble heart
And maybe a fall to instruct sinners in the way
And to remind you that the Lord is in control in the evil day
And I must say it is easy to forget
So you make sure to stay close in your walk as you pray....





Boast Not
2-15-03

Boast not of these strengths
You by your own power so seem to possess
For such resilience
Can be just as easily be taken back
For such order and clarity
Can very well become again a mess
As tin will again have its alloy
And teeth will once more bear it plaque
And it's another lesson that takes seventeen more times
To completely learn
As in the wee hours you maintain poetic flow
As scented candles burn
And for anything you might receive
There will be required of you a sacrifice
Need to give something back for such balance and order
You're going to need the soy sauce and your fried rice
and so I get my takeout lunch once more
And consider added to my life yet another vice...
